Capital: Critique of Political Economy

2013. Typography

Explorative redesign of Karl Marx’ seminal work on political economy.

The most visible intervention concerns the book’s endnotes. Much more than merely indicating sources, Capital’s 1000+ endnotes provide valuable contextual information that is too important to be presented as an afterthought. The redesign of the book attempts to provide more context by turning the endnotes into sidenotes.

Another part of the book’s redesign has to do with the citations. Marx frequently cites other authors to debunk their assertions in favour of his own argument. Such citations are made visually distinct by an increased outdent, farther away from the book’s body text and the citations that directly support Capital’s thesis.
